Museums are a place of history and culture, art and knowledge. People often tend to visit them, some as an obligatory part of a trip, others with a burning desire to learn something new about the culture and history of their own people and other people.

The Louvre is probably the most well-known of the museums, as everyone can recognize its glass pyramid entrance. You descend the escalators to find yourself in the world’s biggest museum, and not just the most visited one.

This museum was established in 2003 and is a merge of two museums, which used the same buildings since 1959, the Museum of Chinese Revolution and the National Museum of Chinese History. It is located on the Tiananmen Square in Beijing, a very popular location which gets lots of visitors.
The museum strives to educate people about the history and art of China. This museum is the third largest museum in regards to gallery space and the second most visited museum, with 8,062,625 visitors in 2017.
The Air and Space museum was established in 1946 but opened in 1976. The museum houses some legendary planes and spacecrafts, including the Wright brothers’ plane, Charles Lindbergh’s Spirit of St. Louis, the first plane to make a transatlantic flight, the Apollo 11 command module, the X-1 Bell, the first plane to exceed the speed of sound, and many more.
In 2017, the museum got as many as 7,000,000 visitors, coming in third on the list.
Next on the list is another museum located in the United States, this time in the gigantic city of New York. Interestingly enough, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is the fourth largest museum in the world and was the fourth most visited museum in 2017, coming in with 6,692,909 visitors.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art was established in 1870 and opened to the public in 1872. This museum has collections of art from all over the world, including African, Asian, Byzantine, Islamic, Oceanic, ancient Egyptian, classical Greek and much, much more.
The Vatican Museums need no introduction, yet they will still get one. The Vatican Museums were established in 1506, 512 years ago. Since that time, they have attracted visitors from all over the world, and in this case, as many as 6,427,277 in 2017.
Another interesting thing to note is that the Vatican Museums are also 5th on the list of largest museums in the world, as well as the most visited ones, at least in 2017.
The Vatican Museums have a lot of things to show, including the Sistine Chapel and its famous ceiling and many more works of art from da Vinci, Caravaggio, Perugino, Giotto, and many, many more.
